HPU Students Head to Italy for Disaster-Risk Research with Oceanography Institute

Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) in Shimla has just inked a deal with Italy National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS), setting the stage for HPU students to travel to Italy for cutting-edge research. This landmark Memorandum of Understanding, signed on Monday, focuses on crucial areas like disaster-risk reduction and Himalayan studies, opening up global academic doors and strengthening international scientific ties for Indian students. The collaboration isn't just a handshake; it's a strategic move to boost HPU international presence and tap into OGS deep expertise in Earth, marine, and polar sciences. With the Himalayas facing increasing climate and geological challenges, this partnership aligns with India's broader national focus on disaster management, evidenced by a standing bilateral agreement between India's National Disaster Management Authority and Italy Department of Civil Protection. This also follows HPU recent efforts to expand its global network, including exploring collaborations with Japan's Hiroshima University. Going forward, HPU plans to sponsor short-term visits for its students and young researchers to OGS state-of-the-art facilities in Italy, providing invaluable exposure to advanced scientific tools and world-class research.
