South Korean industrial giant Doosan Enerbility has just secured a major contract to manufacture core components for TerraPower groundbreaking Natrium reactor in Kemmerer, Wyoming, marking a critical step for the first advanced nuclear plant under construction in the U.S. This deal, announced today, significantly advances TerraPower mission to deploy next-generation nuclear technology, backed by Bill Gates, pushing America's clean energy goals forward. Doosan Enerbility will specifically produce the crucial reactor containment vessel, support structures, and internal components, solidifying its role in the global advanced nuclear supply chain. This isn't just about a new power plant; it's a big move in the global shift towards cleaner, more reliable energy. TerraPower Natrium is a Generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor, which means it uses liquid sodium instead of water, making it safer and more efficient. Crucially, it features an advanced molten-salt energy storage system that can boost its 345-megawatt output to 500 megawatts when electricity demand is high, making it a flexible partner for renewable energy sources. The project, already under construction since April 2026 following a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission permit, is also unique as the world's first commercial coal-to-nuclear conversion, repurposing a site near a retiring coal plant in Wyoming to retain local jobs. Looking ahead, this partnership paves the way for the Natrium plant's commercial operation targeted for 2030, a milestone in advanced nuclear technology. TerraPower isn't stopping there; it has already signed agreements with companies like Meta for future Natrium plants and is partnering with Hyundai Engineering & Construction and SK Innovation to deploy this technology across the U.S., South Korea, and other international markets.
