Tamil Nadu Opens Doors for 9,952 Medical Seats: Counselling Underway for 2026-27

Tamil Nadu's Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has officially opened the gates for a new batch of aspiring doctors and dentists, releasing tentative vacancy positions for 9,952 MBBS and BDS seats for the 2026-27 academic session. This includes 8,093 MBBS seats and 1,859 BDS seats, with online registration and choice filling for Round 1 of counselling already underway until August 19, 2026. The state's unique 7.5% preferential reservation for government school students, allocating 641 seats this year, aims to provide equitable opportunities amidst this fierce landscape. With the state rank list already published on August 10, and special category counselling having commenced on August 13, candidates are now in a crucial window to lock in their choices.
