Adani Defence Boosts India's AK-203 Rifle Program with Five-Year Ammunition Pact

In a major boost for India self-reliance in defence, Adani Defence & Aerospace has just signed a five-year agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) to supply indigenous 7.62x39 mm small-calibre ammunition for the AK-203 assault rifle program. This pact, announced on September 5, 2026, ensures a consistent local source for critical ammunition, integrating rifle production and ammunition supply within India. The deal significantly strengthens the domestic small-arms supply chain, aligning perfectly with the Indian government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, which pushes for greater self-reliance in defence manufacturing. IRRPL, a joint venture formed in 2019 under an India-Russia intergovernmental agreement, is responsible for producing over 6 lakh AK-203 rifles for the Indian Armed Forces at its Korwa facility. Notably, just last month, IRRPL proudly rolled out and successfully test-fired the 'Sher' rifle, the first 100% indigenous AK-203, marking a crucial step towards complete local production.
