Gandhinagar, India, is currently hosting over 950 leading infectious disease experts from India and abroad for CIDSCON 2026, the 16th annual conference of the Clinical Infectious Diseases Society. Inaugurated by Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya, the four-day event from August 20-23 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre is putting a sharp focus on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can revolutionize infectious disease practice, alongside critical discussions on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The conference dives deep into the practical applications of AI beyond just large language models, exploring its potential to transform how we diagnose, prevent, and treat infectious diseases through dedicated workshops and hands-on projects. Experts are also tackling India-specific challenges in AMR, with a special session planned for August 22 to bolster containment efforts in Gujarat, reviewing state initiatives like the Gujarat State AMR Surveillance Network (GUJSAR-N) and monitoring Antimicrobial Stewardship programs. As CIDSCON 2026 continues, participants will engage in discussions covering a wide spectrum of issues from tropical infections and tuberculosis to HIV and fungal diseases, all while exploring cutting-edge technologies such as next-generation sequencing and phage therapy.
