A new study by Skyhigh Security and EMA Research has dropped a bombshell: for the first time ever, the risks posed by Artificial Intelligence are now the number one reason companies are boosting their security spending, officially surpassing traditional data theft. This groundbreaking report, 'Leveraging DSPM and Artificial Intelligence to Solve Data Security Challenges,' surveyed 225 IT, security, and data governance leaders across North America, revealing a significant shift in corporate priorities. Securing AI data flows is now the top driver for Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) investments, cited by 64.4% of respondents, a clear jump ahead of data exfiltration prevention at 56%. This pivotal shift comes as enterprises globally integrate AI tools at an unprecedented pace, leading to a surge in AI adoption and the widespread, often unchecked, use of 'Shadow AI.' This rapid deployment creates a complex landscape riddled with new threats, from prompt injection attacks that manipulate AI models to serious data leakage concerns as sensitive information moves through AI applications. The study highlights that managing AI-related data risks remains fragmented across various departments like IT, security teams, and chief data officers, further complicated by the challenges of maintaining consistent security policies across multi-cloud environments. Looking ahead, organizations are banking heavily on automation, with over 85% expecting it to significantly reduce their security workloads. Companies must now prioritize robust DSPM solutions that offer not just visibility into their data but also real-time, inline enforcement to counter these evolving AI-driven threats.
