Air India Express Lifts Cargo Fees, Bolstering Assam's Desperate Flood Relief Efforts

In a crucial move to accelerate aid to flood-ravaged Assam, Air India Express has waived all cargo charges for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and humanitarian agencies transporting essential relief materials. This initiative, announced on July 28, 2026, means vital supplies like food, medicines, and shelter kits can now reach the state's most affected districts faster and without extra cost, providing a much-needed boost to ongoing rescue operations. Assam is currently battling one of its worst monsoon flood spells, with the death toll climbing to 75 and over 3.32 lakh (332,000) people still affected across seven districts, including Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat. Thousands of families remain displaced, their homes and over 45,000 hectares of farmland submerged, making recovery a daunting challenge.
