Air India is dramatically overhauling its customer service, expanding the use of Salesforce Agentforce AI platform to slash resolution times for complex issues. Beyond just refund processing, which now takes hours instead of weeks, the airline is deploying AI agents for automated email resolution and swift name changes, cutting a three-day process down to mere minutes. This strategic move aims to deliver faster, more consistent, and intelligent support, fundamentally changing how passengers interact with the airline. The expansion is a cornerstone of Air India ambitious digital transformation, driven by its aspiration to become an 'agentic airline of the future' with over 30 AI initiatives already underway across a cloud-first digital ecosystem of more than 140 systems. The airline evaluates these advancements based on their ability to boost revenue, cut costs, enhance customer experience, and enable previously impossible services. This proactive AI deployment addresses the historically complex challenges of airline operations, from validating requests across multiple systems to coordinating various internal teams. As Air India scales these capabilities, the focus remains on leveraging AI to meet real customer needs while maintaining human oversight. While Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, who led much of this digital journey as Chief Digital & Technology Officer, recently announced his departure to pursue new ventures in AI, the airline's commitment to its 'agentic' future remains strong. Passengers should anticipate increasingly seamless interactions, setting a new benchmark for customer service in the global aviation sector.
