Andhra Pradesh Drives Solar Revolution, Fast-Tracking 1.1 GW Feeder Plants Under PM-KUSUM

Andhra Pradesh is making huge strides in its clean energy journey, fast-tracking the implementation of 228 feeder-level solar plants with a massive 1,162.8 MW capacity under the central government's PM-KUSUM scheme. This aggressive push, which aims to commission nearly 110 MW by October 2026, is a critical move to ensure reliable, daytime electricity for farmers' agricultural feeders across the state. India is already ahead in its ambitious clean energy goals, having surpassed 300 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by July 2026, well on its way to 500 GW by 2030. However, the PM-KUSUM scheme, especially its Components A and C (which include these feeder-level plants), has previously faced hurdles like land acquisition and grid infrastructure challenges, often lagging behind other components. Andhra Pradesh decisive action, including the completion of land acquisition for all these projects, demonstrates how proactive state-level efforts are essential to overcome such bottlenecks and accelerate the wider scheme's success as its current phase wraps up in March 2026. With PM-KUSUM first phase nearing its conclusion and plans for 'PM-KUSUM 2.0' on the horizon, the focus is now firmly on execution and closing existing implementation gaps. State energy officials are urging Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and developers to speed up civil works and equipment procurement. The timely commissioning of these Andhra Pradesh projects in the coming months will not only help the state secure maximum Central Financial Assistance but also serve as a crucial blueprint for other states, paving the way for a more robust, solar-powered agricultural future across India.
