Andhra Pradesh Pioneers Blockchain for Land Records, Powering Smarter Governance

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched the 'Mee Bhoomi – Blockchain Pilot Project,' a groundbreaking initiative to digitally secure land records and streamline essential public services across the state. This move aims to tackle longstanding land disputes and will significantly speed up processes for crucial services like electricity connections and infrastructure development. The project directly addresses issues of fraud and administrative delays by integrating land data from the Revenue, Survey, and Registration departments into a single, tamper-proof digital platform, built using Hyperledger Fabric technology. Historically, fragmented land records have created massive hurdles for property transactions and slow down major infrastructure projects, including those vital for power distribution. This new system offers a 'single source of truth,' making land ownership clear and verifiable, building on existing efforts like the Webland platform but with added immutability. Currently, the two-month pilot is running in seven mandals across seven districts, covering over 1.37 lakh land parcels. With a firm November deadline for a comprehensive statewide rollout, if successful, this blockchain-backed system could drastically reduce property litigation, enhance the ease of doing business, and set a new benchmark for transparent digital governance in India, potentially inspiring other states to adopt similar reforms.
