In a major stride towards transforming the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a substantial Rs 50,000 crore investment plan under the ambitious 'Viksit Assam 2047' vision. This pivotal declaration, made after a two-day District Commissioners' Conference that concluded in Jorhat on September 14, 2026, signals a concerted push to overhaul government infrastructure across critical sectors like education, health, and sports. The multi-crore initiative, formally approved by the Assam Cabinet on August 30, 2026, as part of the 'Viksit Assam: Infra Vision', aims to channel Rs 30,000 crore through National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) loans, supplemented by Rs 20,000 crore from state revenues over seven years starting FY 2027-28. Key projects include building 6,000 new Anganwadi centres, upgrading schools and universities, constructing district stadiums, and developing crucial industrial land banks to attract investments and boost the state's economy towards a Rs 10 lakh crore target by 2028. With detailed discussions already held with District Commissioners to map out projects at the local level, the focus now shifts to effective execution and public engagement. The state is also set to launch the 'Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan' from September 17 to October 17, centering on the themes of 'Viksit Bharat 2047' and 'Viksit Assam 2047' to foster community participation and address public grievances. This robust investment underscores Assam's long-term commitment to inclusive growth and industrial expansion.
