Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line Gears Up: Final Trainset Arrives, Faster Rides Ahead

Bengaluru's commuters are on the cusp of a significantly smoother ride as the Yellow Line of the Namma Metro has just received its 15th and final six-coach trainset at the Hebbagodi depot. This critical delivery paves the way for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to slash peak-hour waiting time from the current seven minutes down to a mere four to five minutes, promising a major boost to urban mobility in the city. The Yellow Line, which officially began passenger service on August 11, 2025, has been a long-awaited lifeline for South Bengaluru, particularly connecting the IT hub of Electronic City. The journey to full operational capacity has seen its share of hurdles, including earlier delays in the delivery of rolling stock from its original manufacturer, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd. To overcome these challenges, CRRC partnered with Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (TRSL), which manufactured 34 of the 36 driverless trainset, ensuring the project could move forward. Currently, the Yellow Line operates with 10 trainset, but the addition of the full fleet will unlock its true potential. With the final trainset now at the depot, BMRCL officials are embarking on a rigorous commissioning process, which includes installing couplers and gangways, followed by detailed structural and static inspections. The train will then undergo a mandatory 750-kilometre dynamic trial on the main line to ensure all safety parameters are met before it can be inducted into passenger service. The BMRCL aims to have the entire fleet operational by the end of August 2026, which will usher in the promised reduction in waiting times and greatly enhance the efficiency and reliability of the 19.75-km corridor.
