Chennai-based venture capital firm Bluehill.VC has officially announced the final close of its maiden deeptech and frontier-tech fund, securing a robust ₹400 crore, including a ₹50 crore greenshoe option. This significant capital infusion is set to accelerate India's push into cutting-edge technologies, with the firm already deploying over ₹100 crore across seven promising startups and eyeing 15-16 total investments. The successful close highlights a growing confidence among investors in India's ability to build globally competitive, science-led businesses. This funding round saw strong participation from a diverse group of backers, including institutional heavyweights like the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and the governments of Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, alongside prominent family offices and Ultra-High-Net-Worth Individuals (UHNIs) from India and the Middle East. Bluehill.VC plans to channel these investments into startups developing proprietary technologies in critical sectors such as defense, semiconductors, space, energy, and advanced manufacturing, reflecting a broader national ambition to create 'full-stack India' capabilities. This aligns with the Indian government's supportive policies, like the ₹1-lakh-crore Research, Development, and Innovation Fund-of-Funds (RDI Scheme), designed to foster a competitive deeptech ecosystem. Looking ahead, Bluehill.VC intends to deploy an additional ₹80 crore over the next six months and is already laying the groundwork for its next fund, anticipated in 2027. This momentum is part of a larger trend where deeptech investments in India are gathering pace, with total funding surging to $2 billion in the first eight months of 2026, even as overall deal volumes become more selective. The firm's focus on foundational innovation in sectors like space-tech (e.g., EtherealX) and defense-tech (e.g., Zebu Intelligent Systems) positions it at the forefront of India's evolving technological landscape.
