Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has kicked off a massive ₹850 crore expansion for Evervan Kothari Footwear non-leather manufacturing facility in Karur, setting the stage for 6,750 new direct jobs, predominantly for women. This significant project, which will produce footwear exclusively for global giant Adidas, marks a major win for industrial growth and job creation in one of Tamil Nadu economically less-developed regions. The move is part of a larger strategy by both the state government and Adidas to strengthen India's position as a global footwear manufacturing hub and diversify global supply chains beyond traditional bases. Kothari Industries Chairman Dr. J Rafiq Ahmed highlighted the project's potential to transform local families through comprehensive benefits, including training and free transport. This Phase II expansion, combined with Phase I, brings the total investment in Karur to ₹1,700 crore, aiming to create 13,500 jobs and an annual production capacity of 40 million pairs of Adidas footwear. With production expected to begin this July and the first phase ready in six months, this initiative underscores Chief Minister Vijay's commitment to industrial development and women's empowerment, especially in smaller cities and towns. The project is a clear signal of Tamil Nadu growing appeal for foreign direct investment and its drive to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030-32, positioning itself as a key player in the global manufacturing landscape.
