Deadly Deception: Delhi Bust Exposes Massive Fake Rabies Vaccine Racket

A massive racket dealing in fake rabies vaccine, specifically spurious Abhayrab vials, has been busted in Delhi after raids in Mukherjee Nagar in April led to the seizure of dangerous, substandard drugs. The Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) Kasauli confirmed these vials had 17 crucial differences from genuine samples and critically failed potency requirements, meaning they offered no protection against the fatal disease. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with this grave public health threat, prompting an urgent nationwide alert to state drug controllers. This isn't an isolated incident; it's the second time in under two years that counterfeit Abhayrab doses have surfaced in India, highlighting a persistent challenge in drug quality and safety. The genuine manufacturer, Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL), confirmed the seized batch (KE25012) was not their product, underscoring the sophistication of these criminal networks. Such fake vaccines not only endanger lives by providing false security against rabies, which is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but also erode public trust in essential healthcare systems.
