Delhi's Future Blueprint Notified: Master Plan 2047 Promises Sky-High Growth and Green Makeover

Delhi's ambitious Master Plan 2047 (MPD-2047) was officially notified by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday, setting a comprehensive roadmap for the capital's future development. This crucial step, announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, moves the blueprint from proposal to active implementation, promising to reshape Delhi with a focus on high-rise buildings, extensive public transport, and significant environmental upgrades to support a projected population of 3.2 crore by 2047. The plan aims to tackle Delhi's pressing urban challenges, from housing shortages to traffic congestion and pollution, by fostering integrated growth and encouraging private sector participation. It includes a massive expansion of the metro network to 695 km, the introduction of six new Regional Rapid Transit System corridors, and a framework to allow buildings over 100 floors, especially around Transit-Oriented Development zones. Critically, it also addresses the long-standing issue of unauthorised colonies and slum dwellings, proposing redevelopment and better housing solutions, while also focusing on the long-awaited Yamuna River Revival. With the Master Plan 2047 now notified, the focus shifts to its on-ground execution, which will require close coordination between various government bodies, developers, and citizens. The real estate sector has already welcomed the move, anticipating new investment opportunities and planned urban expansion.
