Following the conclusion of a three-day ceasefire observed for the Soviet Victory Day, Russia launched a wave of missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, intentionally striking civilian areas and infrastructure in cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned these actions as militarily illogical terror tactics, emphasizing the devastation wrought upon residential buildings and civilian lives. These renewed strikes are widely interpreted as a deliberate strategy by Moscow to sow terror, degrade Ukrainian morale, and overwhelm air defenses, rather than achieving specific military objectives on the battlefield. The targeting of civilian infrastructure, particularly following a period of truce, also serves to pressure Ukraine leadership and population, while simultaneously generating significant international condemnation and renewed calls for investigations into potential war crimes.
