MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) is set to welcome its sixth European partner, with an unnamed country joining the initiative to channel significant investments into key Philippine growth areas. Finance Secretary Frederick Go announced on Friday, August 14, 2026, during the EJAP Economic Forum, that the new partner will be officially introduced at the inaugural LEC Investment Forum in September, further solidifying the Philippines' position as a strategic investment hub in the Indo-Pacific region. This expansion builds on the LEC rapid growth since its launch in April 2024 by the Philippines, the United States, and Japan under the G7 Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI). In May 2026, eight additional nations—Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom—pledged support, bringing the current total to 11 partners, including the original three. The corridor, spanning Metro Manila, Subic Bay, Clark Freeport Zone, and Batangas, accounts for roughly half of the Philippines' gross domestic product and is a critical component of trusted global technology supply chains, aligning with the AI-focused Pax Silica Initiative. All eyes are now on the LEC Investment Forum, scheduled for September 10-11, 2026, in Manila, where the new European partner will be unveiled. This event, expected to draw 600 international investors and industry leaders, will showcase ready-for-financing infrastructure projects in advanced manufacturing, digital connectivity, energy, and transportation, signaling a strong push to turn strategic visions into commercial realities and further boost the Philippines' economic landscape.
