Contrary to widespread rumors, Indane, BharatGas, and HP Gas connections will not be terminated on June 30, 2026. Instead, the looming deadline pertains strictly to the mandatory eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) verification process, crucial for the continued receipt of LPG subsidies. Missing this vital authentication will disrupt subsidy benefits, not the gas supply itself, according to recent advisories from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). This push for Aadhaar-based Biometric Authentication is part of a broader government initiative to streamline the distribution of LPG subsidies, eliminate duplicate connections, and prioritize genuine consumers amidst global energy supply disruptions. Recent geopolitical tensions, particularly those impacting the Strait of Hormuz, have intensified concerns over LPG availability, driving policies aimed at ensuring targeted assistance and rationalizing energy consumption. Furthermore, the government is enforcing a 'no dual connection' policy, compelling households in areas with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure to surrender their LPG connections, a move solidified by the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026. As the June 30 deadline approaches, millions of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries and other unauthenticated LPG consumers must complete their eKYC to avoid losing their Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidy amounts. Consumers can conveniently complete the process via their respective OMC's mobile apps, the AadhaarFaceRD app, or through their distributors. While gas deliveries will continue uninterrupted regardless of eKYC status, failure to comply means consumers will likely pay the full market price for their LPG cylinders, awaiting future authentication to reactivate subsidy flows.
