In a significant move for institutional crypto, the Fidelity Ethereum Fund (Cboe BZX:FETH) has officially rolled out new custodial agreements and updated its trust documents to launch an Ether staking program. The fund, which trades under the ticker FETH, aims to offer investors a slice of staking rewards, keeping 85% of the yield while the remaining 15% covers fees for the sponsor, custodians, and node operators. This strategy is designed to generate income from its Ether holdings, with quarterly cash distributions planned for shareholders. This development marks a deeper integration of digital assets into traditional finance, following a trend seen with other major players like BlackRock's staked Ethereum ETF (ETHB) launched earlier this year. The institutional appetite for Ethereum, now recognized as a 'productive asset' due to staking yields, has been growing steadily in 2026, even as the overall staking yield has compressed due to increased participation. The new custodial partners, Anchorage Digital Bank NA and BitGo Bank & Trust, N.A., join Fidelity Digital Assets, N.A. in securing the fund's Ether, highlighting the critical role of robust custody solutions in the evolving institutional crypto landscape. Fidelity's sponsor, FD Funds Management LLC, expects to kick off staking activities as soon as the fund's registration statement becomes effective, signalling a new chapter for FETH investors. This move is expected to further accelerate institutional capital flows into Ethereum staking, as financial advisors gain another regulated avenue to offer clients exposure to both Ether price appreciation and staking yields. The focus now shifts to how these new agreements will translate into real-world staking yields and the overall impact on FETH performance and investor interest.
