The TEXMiN Foundation, backed by the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, has formally partnered with South Africa University of Pretoria. This collaboration is set to drive joint research and innovation in the processing and mining of critical minerals, including Rare Earth Elements (REE), an initiative poised to strengthen both nations' strategic resource capabilities. This partnership is significant because it directly addresses escalating global concerns over the concentration of critical mineral supply chain, which are vital for modern technologies from electric vehicles to defense systems. For India and South Africa, both significant emerging economies and members of the BRICS bloc, this collaboration represents a strategic move to secure future industrial growth, diversify their resource dependencies away from dominant players, and enhance their self-reliance in an increasingly competitive geopolitical landscape for essential raw materials.
