India's Table Tennis Future: Young Stars Syndrela Das, Payas Jain Enter Elite TOPS Development

In a significant boost for Indian sports, rising table tennis talents Syndrela Das and Payas Jain have officially been included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Development Category. This inclusion, announced today, positions the young paddlers for enhanced financial support and specialized training, aiming to sharpen their skills for major international competitions like the upcoming 2026 Asian Games and beyond. Their selection follows a series of impressive performances, notably Das's double medal haul at this year's Asian Youth Championships. Seventeen-year-old Syndrela Das, fresh off a silver medal in girls' doubles and a bronze in singles at the Asian Youth Championships in Thailand, and Payas Jain, a national ranking champion, are now set to receive critical assistance under the flagship TOPS program, managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This move underscores India's strategic investment in nurturing its junior athletes, providing them a clear pathway towards future Olympic success. The recent National Ranking Table Tennis Championships also saw both Das and Jain clinch individual titles, showcasing their current form and potential. Their inclusion comes as both athletes are already part of India's 10-member squad for the 2026 Asian Games, with Payas Jain also set to form a men's doubles combination with Ankur Bhattacharjee. While the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) recently faced suspension over governance issues, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has stepped in to ensure athlete preparations are not hampered.
