Jio Platforms, the digital services arm of Reliance Industries, made a blockbuster stock market debut today, October 28, listing at a strong 21.36% premium over its initial public offering (IPO) price on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This historic listing propelled the company to India's second-most valuable listed firm, boasting a market capitalization of approximately Rs 13.1 lakh crore (around $137 billion), right behind its parent company. The Rs 30,213 crore IPO, hailed as India's largest ever, witnessed overwhelming demand, being oversubscribed more than 22 times and attracting a record 1.3 crore applications. The issue was fully subscribed within an astonishing 100 minutes of opening on October 21, underscoring intense investor confidence in Jio's expansive digital ecosystem and its future growth trajectory. This massive infusion of capital will primarily be used to pare down debt at Reliance Jio Infocomm and fuel further investments in cutting-edge areas like data centers and Artificial Intelligence (AI), solidifying Jio's position as a dominant force in India's rapidly evolving digital landscape. Looking ahead, Managing Director Akash Ambani, who spoke at the listing ceremony, highlighted Jio Platforms' ambitious plans, including a $110 billion investment over the next seven years into AI initiatives and data centers. The company, already India's largest mobile carrier with over 533 million subscribers and a leading 5G network provider, is also aggressively pursuing 6G technology through software upgrades and aiming for global expansion as a managed services provider. Investors will be keenly watching the Q2 FY27 results, expected to be announced on October 30, for further insights into its financial health and strategic direction, as Jio continues to shape India's digital future and potentially reshape the global telecom arena.
