JM Financial has roared to the top of India's investment banking league table for the first half of Fiscal Year 2027 (H1 FY27), managing an impressive 26 transactions valued at Rs 75,775 crore. This stellar performance comes as the broader domestic investment banking sector saw equity fundraising surge by a remarkable 40%, hitting nearly Rs 1.7 lakh crore, signaling robust health in India's primary markets. The surge reflects a dynamic period for Indian capital markets, with a total of 116 Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and Qualified Institutional Placements (QIPs) conducted from April to September 2026—a significant jump from the previous year. This record activity in the primary market, which saw overall public equity fundraising reach Rs 2.43 lakh crore, has occurred despite a relatively subdued performance in the secondary markets, where the Nifty 50 only inched up 1.3% during the same period. Domestic players like ICICI Securities and SBI Capital Markets also posted strong numbers, ranking second and third respectively, highlighting the competitive yet flourishing landscape for Indian financial institutions. Looking ahead, the momentum is expected to continue, with a substantial pipeline of nearly 250 companies aiming to raise approximately Rs 4.65 trillion through IPOs, indicating sustained investor confidence and capital deployment within India. The focus will now be on how these domestic investment banks capitalize on this strong demand and navigate potential market volatilities, further solidifying India's position as a vibrant hub for capital mobilization.
