A United Nations (UN) panel, led by former Indian Chief Justice S. Muralidhar, has found strong reasons to believe that Israel's deliberate killing of Palestinian children is part of a larger plan to wipe out the Palestinian people. The Independent International Commission of Inquiry reported on June 23, 2026, that Israeli security forces have caused the deaths of at least 20,179 children and injured 44,143 others since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, with children making up about 30% of all deaths in Gaza. This alarming report isn't the first time the Commission has raised such serious concerns; it had already concluded in September 2025 that Israel was committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The latest findings detail horrifying methods, including the use of heavy bombs in crowded areas, drone-mounted weapons, and sniper fire, often resulting in children being shot in the head, skull, and neck. Shockingly, the report also highlights continued child casualties even after an October 2025 ceasefire, and a sharp rise in violence against children in the West Bank, where many face harsh treatment and sexual violence in detention. Justice Muralidhar has urged the world to move beyond 'outrage' and take real action, recommending the arrest of Israeli officials with International Criminal Court warrants and for nations to check their responsibilities under international law. Israel has strongly rejected the report, calling it a 'libellous sham' and denying the allegations. As the international community grapples with these severe accusations, all eyes will be on global bodies to see what steps are taken next to ensure accountability and protect the most vulnerable.
