In a significant move towards modernizing law enforcement, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Sujit Kumar Singh, has directed all police stations across the Kashmir Zone to immediately adopt SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing. This directive, issued during a high-level conference in Srinagar on October 17, aims to transform police functioning by making it more efficient, accountable, and deeply connected with citizens through technology. The push for 'Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, and Techno-savvy and Trained' (SMART) Policing is in line with the broader vision of the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir. Digital Beat Policing, a key component, will replace old paper records with mobile apps, GPS tracking, and QR/RFID scanning, allowing Beat Officers to maintain digital records, boost public outreach, and speed up service delivery. This initiative is critical for strengthening public trust and operational efficiency in a region that constantly requires adaptable and responsive policing. All district police heads and Station House Officers (SHOs) have been instructed to institutionalize these systems without delay, ensuring regular field visits by Beat Officers and continuous interaction with local residents. The goal is to ensure that police services reach every citizen with dignity and accountability, moving beyond policy documents to visible improvements on the ground. Supervisory officers will personally monitor the implementation to achieve measurable results, signaling a new era for policing in Kashmir.
