Eli Lilly just announced a blockbuster third quarter for 2026, blowing past Wall Street expectations with revenue soaring to $24.4 billion, a 39% jump from last year. This phenomenal growth was overwhelmingly powered by its star duo, the obesity drug Zepbound and diabetes powerhouse Mounjaro, which together fueled 88% of the year-over-year revenue increase. The impressive performance led the pharmaceutical giant to raise its full-year revenue forecast for the third time this year, signalling continued dominance in the exploding cardiometabolic market. These results are a huge win for Lilly, further solidifying its lead in the fiercely competitive GLP-1 market, where it currently holds approximately 63% of the U.S. obesity and diabetes drug segment against rival Novo Nordisk. While Mounjaro worldwide sales surged 65% to $10.7 billion and Zepbound global sales hit $5.35 billion, a new oral weight-loss drug, Foundayo, did miss analyst sales targets. However, expanded insurance coverage, particularly through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, is significantly broadening access and driving demand, with 7 out of 10 new patients in the program choosing a Lilly medicine. Looking ahead, investors will be closely watching Lilly's ability to navigate ongoing pricing pressures and manage its rapidly expanding manufacturing needs, especially as the global GLP-1 market is projected to reach $65.2 billion by 2033. The company's pipeline remains robust, with promising updates on drugs like Retatrutide. Despite a slight dip in adjusted full-year earnings per share guidance due to significant acquired R&D charges, the market is clearly betting on Lilly's long-term growth trajectory in a health landscape eager for innovative treatments.
