Madhya Pradesh has officially powered up its semiconductor ambitions, securing over ₹15,400 crore in fresh investment proposals and commitments at the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Summit 2026, which wrapped up today in Indore. A major highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state's MPSEDC and global industry body SEMI India, with key support from the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), signaling a strong push to build a robust local chip and electronics industry. This move is expected to create more than 10,000 new jobs, setting a new course for the state's industrial future. The timing is critical as India intensifies its drive to become a global semiconductor hub, with the recently approved 'Semicon 2.0' program urging states to compete for manufacturing clusters. Madhya Pradesh, under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, is leveraging its central location and the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Policy 2025, which offers attractive incentives, to attract crucial investments. This includes a significant ₹6,200 crore project by Paras Semiconductor for an advanced packaging and testing facility and a ₹6,415 crore hyperscale data center by Cytech RE, showcasing the state's multi-pronged approach to the digital economy. Looking ahead, the state government has already allotted land for five major projects worth nearly ₹10,000 crore, ensuring quick implementation of these commitments. Beyond manufacturing, the focus is also on developing a skilled workforce and fostering innovation, with plans for new Centres of Excellence in semiconductor technology. This strategic thrust positions Madhya Pradesh as a key player in India's journey towards chip self-reliance, with industry leaders now urging proactive measures in education and research to sustain this momentum.
