Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unleashed a massive development push in Andhra Pradesh, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for projects valued at over ₹17,900 crore in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram. The highlight was the formal opening of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, a greenfield facility built at a cost exceeding ₹5,640 crore, which will commence commercial flights on August 17, 2026. This strategic investment also includes the foundation for Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing plant in Visakhapatnam and significant National Highway improvements, signaling a new era of growth for the state. These multi-sectoral initiatives are pivotal to realizing the 'Viksit Bharat' vision and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's 'Swarna Andhra' aspiration, aiming to transform the region into a major economic and manufacturing hub. The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, developed by GMR Group under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, is designed to initially handle six million passengers annually and will significantly boost connectivity, tourism, and industrial investments across North Andhra. The ASIP Semiconductor Project, approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, is set to produce around 96 million chips annually, creating high-skilled jobs and reducing import dependence for critical technology. Looking ahead, the new Bhogapuram airport's commercial flight operations will begin mid-August, with plans to expand its annual passenger capacity to 40 million in future phases, positioning it as a key gateway for India's eastern corridor. The integrated development also includes a 500-acre aviation hub and an EduCity, alongside ongoing efforts to modernize ports and electrify railway networks, underscoring a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul for the state's economic future. These projects are expected to generate substantial employment and further integrate Andhra Pradesh into the national and global economy.
