Monsoon Fury Grips Madhya Pradesh: Satna and Chitrakoot Battle Record Floods, Hundreds Rescued

Torrential monsoon rains have caused record-breaking floods in parts of Madhya Pradesh, with Satna and the pilgrimage town of Chitrakoot bearing the brunt. Over 350 people have been rescued in Satna district, while an Indian Army helicopter airlifted two individuals in Chitrakoot as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) continues round-the-clock operations. The Mandakini River has swollen to unprecedented levels, leaving large areas submerged and prompting urgent evacuations across the region. The situation remains critical, particularly in Chitrakoot, where the Mandakini River rose a staggering 8-9 meters above the danger mark, inundating religious sites like Ramghat and even washing away a 300-meter bridge. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has reviewed the dire situation, confirming that around 700 people have been rescued across the affected districts, and thankfully, no loss of life has been reported despite significant property damage. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Air Force, including drones for surveillance, are actively assisting local authorities in rescue and relief efforts, as many residents were forced onto rooftops. With the India Meteorological Department forecasting continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Madhya Pradesh over the coming days, authorities are maintaining a high alert, especially in areas like Majhgawan tehsil. Relief camps have been established to shelter the displaced, and the district administration is issuing advisories urging residents to move to safer locations as water levels, though receding in some spots, remain a significant threat. The focus now is on sustained rescue efforts, providing essential supplies, and preparing for the aftermath, even as the monsoon season continues its intense spell.
