Vanshika Rana, a bright Class XII student from Green Field Senior Secondary School in Nagrota Bagwan, Himachal Pradesh, has recently participated in the Union Ministry of Education prestigious Prerana programme in Gujarat. This unique week-long residential initiative, launched in January 2024, aims to cultivate leadership qualities, instill national values, and foster a spirit of nation-building among India's youth. Rana's selection is a significant achievement, as she was among only two students chosen from Himachal Pradesh for this coveted program. The Prerana programme is a cornerstone of the government's efforts to align education with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing hands-on learning, human values, and a deep appreciation for India's rich cultural heritage. Students engage in diverse activities, including yoga, meditation, thematic seminars, and visits to historical sites in Vadnagar, Gujarat, where the program is hosted. The curriculum is built around nine core value-based topics developed by IIT Gandhinagar, ensuring a holistic development approach that moves beyond traditional classroom learning. As the Prerana programme gains momentum, states like Punjab are integrating its value-based curriculum into their PM SHRI schools, signaling a broader national commitment to this experiential learning model. The Ministry of Education continues to conduct 'Prerana Utsav' events at district and block levels, seeking out promising young minds like Vanshika to become future changemakers. This ongoing expansion highlights the government's vision to empower a new generation of leaders rooted in Indian ethos and ready to contribute to a developed India.
