India's crucial National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG) re-exam, held yesterday, June 21, proved significantly more challenging than its controversial May predecessor, pushing candidates to demonstrate a deeper 'conceptual depth' and 'analytical questions' solving skills. Nabin Kaarki, National Academic Director – Medical at Aakash Educational Services Limited, characterized the paper as 'moderate to difficult', noting Physics as particularly tough and lengthy. This re-examination was necessitated by a nationwide 'paper leak' scandal that rocked the initial May 3 session, leading to widespread protests and a full cancellation by the 'National Testing Agency (NTA)'. The 'Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)' is actively probing the alleged leak, which saw a 'guess paper' circulating with significant overlap to the original exam. Over 22.79 lakh candidates, caught in the midst of this uncertainty, reappeared for the test, which was conducted under unprecedented security, including biometric authentication and CCTV surveillance, to restore faith in the system. Students and experts now await the provisional answer key, expected around June 24-28, with final 'Re-exam (NEET UG 2026)' results projected by late July. Given the increased difficulty, especially in Physics and Chemistry, expert predictions suggest a potential downward adjustment in 'cut-off marks' for 'All India Quota (AIQ)' government medical seats, likely settling around 590-600 marks. The integrity of India's most significant medical entrance exam remains under scrutiny as the nation anticipates these crucial outcomes.
