Delhi successfully conducted the NEET-UG re-examination on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with authorities reporting no major glitches or complaints, marking a crucial step after the original May 3 exam was marred by widespread allegations of paper leak and irregularities. Over 20 lakh candidates appeared for the re-test across thousands of centers in India and abroad, under an unprecedented multi-layered security framework involving multiple government agencies. This re-examination comes in the wake of significant national outrage and legal challenges after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the May 3 examination due to evidence of a 'guess paper' circulating, with reports indicating nearly 120 questions matching the actual biology and chemistry sections. The controversy also involved issues like inflated marks and the awarding of grace marks to over 1,500 students, which led to numerous petitions in the Supreme Court of India. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the alleged paper leak, having already arrested 13 individuals. While the smooth conduct of the re-examination is a relief for authorities, many students found the paper tougher than the original, leading to fresh anxieties regarding results and cut-off trends. The Supreme Court has deferred hearings on challenges to the re-test until July, emphasizing accountability. The focus now shifts to the prompt declaration of results and the ongoing CBI investigation, as the Ministry of Education plans to transition NEET to a computer-based format from 2027 to enhance security.
