NTPC Green Powers Up Gujarat: 64.76 MW Solar Boosts India's Green Dream

NTPC Green Energy, India's leading green power player, has just fired up a new 64.76 Megawatt (MW) solar power unit at the massive Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, marking another big step in the nation's push for clean energy. This new part of a larger 225 MW project officially started running on July 24, 2026, boosting NTPC Green Energy total installed renewable capacity to over 10,786 MW. This move shows how serious India is about switching from dirty fossil fuels to cleaner, greener power sources. This isn't just about one small project; it's a piece of something much bigger. The Khavda park itself is set to become the world's largest hybrid renewable energy hub, aiming for a massive 30 Gigawatt (GW) capacity by 2029, a game-changer for India's energy future. Gujarat, the state where Khavda is located, is already a leader in renewable energy in India, actively working towards 100 GW of clean energy by 2030 and has cut carbon emissions by nearly 50 million tonnes in the last financial year. This project, and others like it from companies such as Adani Green Energy, are riding on strong policy support from the state, like the Gujarat Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2026. Looking ahead, we can expect more phases of the 225 MW Khavda project to come online, further increasing India's solar muscle. NTPC Green Energy isn't stopping there; they're also investing in advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda, including a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery, to make sure this green power is available round-the-clock. These ongoing efforts are crucial as India races towards its ambitious goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power by 2030 and its promise of Net-Zero Emissions by 2070 under the Paris Agreement.
