Odisha Forges Key Partnerships for Digital Agriculture, Climate Resilience, and Farmer Welfare

Odisha's agricultural landscape is set for a significant transformation following the state government's signing of six key agreements on Friday, August 28, 2026. These Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Department of Posts, ICRISAT, and the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) are designed to supercharge digital agriculture, build climate resilience, and uplift farmer livelihoods across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo hailed the move as a 'paradigm shift' for Odisha's farming sector. The pacts aim to bring cutting-edge solutions to the grassroots. The Department of Posts, leveraging its extensive rural network, will ensure last-mile delivery of digital agriculture services, helping farmers with registration for schemes like CM KISAN and PM-KISAN, and facilitating Farmer ID generation through Gramin Dak Sevaks. Meanwhile, four agreements with ICRISAT will focus on strengthening seed systems for pulses and oilseeds, driving 'Atmanirbhar Odisha' (self-reliant Odisha) in these crops, and accelerating the development of climate-resilient varieties through Speed Breeding. The MSSRF collaboration will implement a three-year 'Farming System for Nutrition' project in Nayagada, integrating biofortified crops, backyard poultry, and aquaculture to boost farmer incomes and household nutrition for 3,000 small and marginal farmers. The Odisha government has made it clear that the ultimate measure of success for these initiatives will be their tangible impact on farmers' incomes and overall livelihoods. This holistic strategy seeks to decentralize seed systems and combat malnutrition, ensuring that benefits reach every farming household. As these projects roll out, the focus will be on seamless integration and efficient execution, with a keen eye on making Odisha's agriculture more productive, sustainable, and resilient in the face of changing climate patterns.
