Oldham Athletic Community Trust (OACT) is rolling out its popular Sponsored Penalty Shootout for the 2026/27 academic year, inviting schools across the borough to sign up following a hugely successful 2025/26 campaign that raised over £39,000 for participating schools. This initiative offers a fun, football-themed way for pupils to get active, collect sponsorship, and generate vital funds for their schools, which have previously used the money for everything from sports and ICT equipment to new learning resources. With recent successful shootouts in May 2026 at Glodwick Primary and Propps Hall Primary, and over £4,800 raised by one school in April 2026, the program is clearly hitting its stride. The move comes as schools grapple with tightening budgets, making OACT efforts even more crucial. The Trust, as the official charity of Oldham Athletic AFC, aims to create 'A Better Oldham' through sport, education, and community programs, a mission reinforced by its comprehensive 2025 Impact Report. That report highlighted OACT extensive reach, engaging over 5,000 children weekly through its Primary Schools Partner Programme and supporting nearly 3,000 in Soccer Schools. The Sponsored Penalty Shootout not only boosts school finances but also promotes physical activity, teamwork, and a connection to the local football club.
