A parliamentary committee, led by Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, has demanded a written report from authorities after reviewing the National Testing Agency (NTA) handling of the contentious NEET-UG medical entrance examination. This move comes as pressure mounts for significant reforms in India's exam system following widespread allegations of paper leak and irregularities in the recently concluded admission cycle. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, the third such panel to scrutinize the NEET controversy, heard presentations from NTA officials and domain experts on July 16, 2026, focusing on the agency's operational efficiency and oversight by Health Ministry regulatory institutions. This latest review follows the cancellation of the original May 3rd Examination due to an alleged paper leak and a subsequent re-examination on June 21st, whose results were declared on July 16, 2026. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the leak, while the Supreme Court has acknowledged that while challenges to the re-exam are 'infructuous,' the broader issue of institutional reforms remains critical. With the panel seeking concrete steps to bolster NTA integrity and a 'One Nation - One Entrance Test' concept, including SmartInsta Test-AI (SITAI) also presented, all eyes are on the forthcoming written report and any proposed structural changes. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has already signaled a shift towards a computer-based format for NEET from 2027, indicating a push for more secure, technology-driven solutions to prevent future examination compromises. The outcome of this parliamentary scrutiny will be crucial for the future of national entrance exams and the trust students place in the system.
