Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released the 24th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, directly transferring over Rs 18,680 crore to more than 9.34 crore farmer families across India. The significant financial aid, disbursed during an event in Gujarat's Banaskantha district, aims to provide crucial income support to small and marginal farmers nationwide. This timely transfer underscores the government's continued focus on agricultural welfare ahead of the festive season. The latest installment comes amidst ongoing global economic shifts, with PM Modi highlighting the Centre's massive expenditure of around Rs 16 lakh crore on fertilizer subsidies to shield farmers from soaring international prices. He emphasized that Indian farmers receive essential fertilizers like urea and Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) at heavily subsidized rates, significantly lower than global market costs, a critical measure to protect their incomes and agricultural output. The government has also approved the scheme's continuation until 2030-31 with a substantial outlay, reflecting a long-term commitment. Looking ahead, the administration continues to push for a more technology-driven and outcome-oriented approach to agriculture, moving beyond just subsidies. During his visit to Banaskantha, PM Modi also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various development projects exceeding Rs 14,000 crore, focusing on scientific livestock breeding, dairy expansion, and modern irrigation, alongside the PM-KISAN disbursal. These initiatives signal an integrated strategy to bolster rural livelihoods and enhance farming efficiency, with mandatory e-KYC and land record verification playing a key role in ensuring transparent and efficient delivery of benefits.
