PM-USP Scholarship Opens: ₹20,000 Annually for Bright Students, Apply by October 31

The Central Government has opened applications for the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana (PM-USP) for the 2026-27 academic year, offering up to ₹20,000 annually to help bright students from financially weaker families pursue higher education. Students keen on undergraduate, postgraduate, or professional courses can apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) until October 31, 2026. This scheme is a lifeline for many, ensuring financial hurdles don't block access to college and university dreams. This year's application window, which began in June, underscores the government's continued focus on boosting higher education enrollment and supporting academic talent across India. With eligibility requiring students to be in the top 80th percentile of their Class 12 board exams and have a family income under ₹4.5 lakh annually, the scholarship targets those who genuinely need it most. Notably, 50% of the scholarships are reserved for female students, further promoting gender equality in higher studies, and funds are directly transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency. As the October 31 deadline approaches, aspiring and renewing students are urged to complete their applications on the NSP, ensuring all required documents, including Aadhaar and income certificates, are accurately uploaded after face authentication. Colleges and state agencies will verify these applications, with the Ministry of Education overseeing the scheme's seamless implementation.
