The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has implemented a new foreign exchange window, specifically designed to supply US Dollar to state-run oil refiners. This targeted intervention aims to mitigate the substantial daily dollar demand from these large importers, which often places downward pressure on the Indian Rupee. This move is critical because India, a major crude oil importer, faces a persistent Current Account Deficit (CAD) exacerbated by elevated global crude oil prices and a strengthening US Dollar, driven by the US Federal Reserve hawkish monetary policy and high interest rates. The RBI action is intended to stabilize the Rupee, curb imported inflation, and prevent potential Capital outflow, signaling the central bank's commitment to maintaining currency stability amidst a challenging global macroeconomic environment.
