Red Fort to Echo 'Vande Mataram' for First Time, Spotlight on Youth Power

In a significant departure from tradition, India's National Song, 'Vande Mataram,' will be sung from the historic ramparts of the Red Fort for the very first time during the 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The government has also announced a prominent focus on 'Yuva Shakti,' or youth power, highlighting the contributions of India's young generation towards the nation's future. This landmark move aims to blend deep-rooted historical patriotism with a forward-looking vision for a developed India. Defence Secretary R.K. Singh confirmed the new ceremonial sequence, noting that this year also marks the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram,' a song that played a pivotal role in galvanizing the Indian Independence Movement. The national song will be performed upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrival, followed by the unfurling of the national flag and the National Anthem, 'Jana Gana Mana.' The emphasis on 'Yuva Shakti' aligns with ongoing government initiatives like the National Education Policy 2020 and the proposed National Youth Policy 2025, which empower young people through skill development, entrepreneurship, and civic participation, positioning them as key architects of 'Viksit Bharat by 2047.'
