Reliance Industries Limited has delivered a stellar second quarter for fiscal year 2027, reporting a 22% sequential jump in consolidated net profit to ₹25,548 crore, marking a robust 41% year-on-year increase. This impressive performance was largely propelled by its Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) business and the digital services arm, Jio Platforms, effectively offsetting a noticeable slowdown in the retail and traditional oil and gas segments, and achieving record gross revenue of ₹3,62,268 crore. The O2C business emerged as a powerful growth engine, with its EBITDA soaring by nearly 68% year-on-year to ₹25,203 crore, driven by elevated transportation fuel cracks, improved petrochemical margins, and strong domestic demand. This boost comes amidst a volatile global commodity market and the ongoing West Asia crisis, which saw crude and transportation fuel prices surge significantly. Meanwhile, Jio Platforms continued its strong run, reporting a 13.7% year-on-year profit rise and an increased Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) of ₹218.8, further bolstered by adding 9.1 million net subscribers and crossing 300 million 5G users, shortly after its high-profile IPO debut. However, Reliance Retail faced headwinds, with its net profit declining by over 24% due to strategic investments in digital commerce expansion, absorbed input-cost inflation for consumers, and the shift of the festive calendar to the upcoming quarter. Broader economic factors like high inflation, a weaker Indian Rupee, and a deficient monsoon also contributed to softer demand in certain retail categories. Looking ahead, Chairman Mukesh Ambani emphasis on new energy and Artificial Intelligence initiatives like 'Reliance Intelligence' and India's 'sovereign AI backbone' suggests a strategic pivot towards future-proof growth drivers, while the Indian economy itself is projected to grow robustly between 7-7.35% for FY27.
