Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) has announced a bold push towards a software-driven future, targeting an ambitious one million connected car sales by 2027, building on its already impressive base of over 800,000 such vehicles on Indian roads. This move signals a significant acceleration in the integration of advanced technologies within the country's rapidly evolving automotive landscape, where software is increasingly becoming as crucial as horsepower. The automaker's proprietary Bluelink platform, introduced in 2019, has been central to this shift, now offering more than 70 features ranging from remote diagnostics and location tracking to in-car payments via Hyundai Pay and AI-powered voice commands. This growing adoption reflects a broader trend among Indian consumers, with over 95% reportedly willing to pay for advanced software-defined vehicle capabilities like enhanced safety and continuous vehicle health monitoring. This momentum is also being fueled by government initiatives, such as the proposed Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication framework, which aims to mandate V2V systems in new vehicles from October 2028 to boost road safety. Looking ahead, Hyundai's strategy heavily leans into electric mobility, with upcoming mass-market Electric SUVs slated to feature next-generation connected car technology as standard, further cementing the convergence of electric and digital experiences. The company has even set its sights on two million connected car sales by 2030, driven by its Software-Defined Vehicle roadmap and continuous innovation like the 2025 introduction of the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) with Over-the-Air (OTA) update capabilities. This aggressive stance positions Hyundai to capture a larger share of India's burgeoning connected car market, which is projected to grow significantly in the coming years.
