Waaree Renewable Technologies, a key player in India's green energy sector, has just landed a major contract to build a massive 291 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant, paired with an equally impressive 280 MWh battery storage system. This big win, announced today, involves a significant Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project for an unnamed Indian thermal power generating company. The project is set to be finished by the financial year 2028, marking another important step in the country's clean energy journey. This new project highlights India's aggressive push towards its ambitious renewable energy goals, aiming for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. Integrating battery storage with solar is crucial for handling the 'intermittency' of renewable sources – meaning when the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing – and ensuring a steady power supply for the grid. The Central Electricity Authority has projected a need for 208 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System by 2030 to support this transition.
