Countries like Chile, a major producer of these minerals, are already feeling the pinch, with over 85% of its facilities facing high water stress and unpredictable supply. The report, developed with partners like WWF and the World Resources Institute, clearly shows that without better water management, the world's journey to a low-carbon economy could hit a major roadblock. The findings push for urgent, coordinated action across governments, industry, and investors. Solutions like improved water stewardship, where companies manage water responsibly, and investments in technologies like desalinated seawater or nature-based solutions are becoming crucial. Ignoring these water risks means 'sleepwalking into a major constraint' on our energy future, according to ICMM, making smart water use essential for everything from mining to power generation.
