A concerning new trend reveals a sharp increase in women's use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), driven largely by social media's 'perfect body' ideals and the growing popularity of strength sports [1, 3, 7]. This surge is happening amidst a critical lack of tailored healthcare support, with many women feeling judged and navigating serious health risks without proper medical guidance [2, 3]. Experts are now calling for urgent attention to this escalating public health issue, highlighting significant gaps in research traditionally focused on male users [2]. The landscape is further complicated by 'fitfluencers' on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, who often promote steroid cycles and other chemical shortcuts, making these substances seem normal and accessible [1, 3, 4]. While women often seek these image-enhancing drugs (PIEDs) to boost body composition or athletic performance, they face irreversible side effects such as voice deepening, increased facial hair, and serious organ damage [5, 6, 11].
