A groundbreaking new study published in 'Occupational & Environmental Medicine' has revealed a significant link between workplace pesticide exposure and an increased risk of developing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The extensive meta-analysis, conducted by Canadian researchers, pooled 35 years of global occupational data, indicating that professional exposure to these chemicals could raise ALS risk by up to 70%, with men facing a particularly elevated risk. This breaking research underscores growing concerns about environmental factors influencing neurodegenerative diseases. Delving deeper, the analysis showed that specific pesticide types contributed varying risks: herbicides were linked to a 71% increased risk, while insecticides and fungicides were associated with a 57% and 61% rise, respectively.
