The Indian women's U17 football team, affectionately known as the Young Tigresses, has made history by securing their spot in the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup China 2027. This marks the first time any Indian national football team, across all age groups and genders, has qualified for consecutive editions of a Women's Asian Cup. Their dominant 4-0 victory over hosts Malaysia on Sunday, October 11, sealed their top position in Group E of the qualifiers. Under the guidance of coach Joakim Alexandersson, the Young Tigresses displayed an incredible performance throughout the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup China 2027 Qualifiers, finishing with a perfect nine points, scoring 20 goals, and remarkably, not conceding a single one. Their journey included a record-breaking 14-0 thrashing of Iraq, the biggest win ever for an Indian U17 women's side, followed by a solid 2-0 victory against Syria. Star striker Anushka Kumari was pivotal, netting seven goals across these qualifying matches, including five against Iraq and two against Syria. The squad will now prepare for the main tournament, set to take place in Suzhou, China, from March 31 to April 17, 2027. This achievement highlights a promising future for women's football in India, with increased focus and support aiming to elevate the sport. The top four teams at the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup China 2027 will also earn a coveted spot in the 2027 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, giving the Young Tigresses a massive incentive to perform exceptionally well on the continental stage.
