Good news for millions of Indian employees: the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has credited an 8.25% interest rate for the financial year 2025-26, with most accounts reflecting the update by mid-July. This welcome boost to retirement savings is now easier to track than ever, thanks to revamped digital services across the official EPFO portal, the Umang app, and quick SMS or missed call options. These enhanced ways to check your Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) balance come after EPFO major system upgrade to CITES 2.01 in late June, which temporarily impacted services. While initial glitches after the upgrade delayed the rollout of UPI-linked claim settlements until August, the core functionalities for viewing contributions, interest earned, and downloading your EPF passbook are fully restored and streamlined. The new EPF Scheme, 2026, introduced under the Code on Social Security, 2020, further aims to modernize operations, and a special initiative called VISHWAS, 2026, offers employers a chance to settle long-standing disputes, signalling a big push towards smoother digital compliance and faster service. Looking ahead, EPF members should ensure their Universal Account Number (UAN) and Know Your Customer (KYC) details, including Aadhaar and PAN, are updated to fully leverage these digital services, especially with the anticipated launch of UPI-based claim payments. EPFO is also rolling out E-PRAAPTI, an Aadhaar-based platform designed to help trace and link old or inactive PF accounts, making it simpler to consolidate your retirement savings. Keep an eye on the official EPFO channels for the latest updates as these digital enhancements continue to unfold, making your provident fund management more transparent and efficient.
